Buying a book..
Today I went to the university bookshop to find this book on sociology and met Johnny T. there between the philosophy and politics sections;
I know Johnny since we were in class together in highschool where he would allways cheer up the thursdayafternoon- chemistryclasses with anonymously calling out our teacher "Fatso!"...
This would happen every time when mr. Vandenvijver had turned his back to write formulas on the blackboard...
Mr. Vandenvijver would then turn around again and without asking who called him such mean name he'd grin at the students, put his two hands onto his belly saying: "good tools need good protection".
I was surprised to hear that Johnny made it to become an assistant teacher at the university and was now preparing for his afternoonclass.
"Can I come and attend your class?" I asked.
"No" said Johnny, "Everyone knows you hardly ever read books and we wonder if you are even able to read at all"
I told Johnny that not everyone could be as talented and successfull as himself and that I indeed can read.
"Which book have you read in the past six months?" Johnny asked looking at me suspiciously.
It took me a while to come up with a name; then finally I answered : " The cult of the amateur by Andrew Keen; "Le guide marabout du judo by Louis Robert" and " Freedom wherever you are by Thich Nhat Hanh"...
I was relieved to be able to answer but Johnny still stared at me with a superior glance. "Yes, you can come" he slowly said "But you'll have to sit in the back and be quiet "...
to be continued.
